Mimi Maniscalco, who has served as an interim assistant principal at Saxe Middle School since Feb. 4, has been named the new principal at Dwight Elementary School, effective July 1.

She takes over for Scott Bannon, who took an indefinite personal leave of absence from the award-winning school in April. In May, he resigned effective at the end of the academic year with no public explanation of his abrupt departure. He was appointed Dwight's principal in July 2012.

She has been an assistant principal in New Canaan since February, Maniscalco also has experience as an early literacy tutor and reading coach, and worked as a preschool teacher for the Norwalk YMCA before becoming a teacher in Fairfield. She also has two years experience in Fairfield as a summer school principal.

Maniscalco earned a bachelor's degree from Curry College and a master's and sixth-year degrees from Sacred Heart University.
