NEW CANAAN — A Norwalk man is facing felony charges after police say he tried to pick up a child from St. Aloysius School while intoxicated.
Police were notified of an intoxicated parent trying to pick up a child at the school about 2:50 p.m. Jan. 11. Police said officers stopped Paul Sayegh, 45, of Lori Lane, Norwalk, as he was backing out of a space in the school parking lot.
The child was not properly secured in the backseat of the car, police said. The child was sitting near several cut pieces of wood, police said.
Officers detected an odor of alcohol on Sayegh’s breath and he failed a field sobriety test, police said. Police said there was a bottle of liquor in the front center console. Sayegh was taken into custody and he refused a breath test, police said.
He was charged with driving under the influence and risk of injury to a child.
Sayegh was released on $5,000 bond ahead of a scheduled appearance in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Jan. 12.
