A 39-year-old man and his 63-year-old mother-in-law are both facing assault charges following a dispute on Saturday, July 5.

Gocha Kurtsikashvili, of 41 Millport Ave., New Canaan, was arrested July 5 on charges of third-degree assault, interfering with a 9-1-1 call and disorderly conduct.

His mother-in-law, Nanuli Guguchia, of the same address, was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Police said Guguchia call 9-1-1 at about 11:30 p.m. to report that she had was involved in a physical dispute with Kurtsikashvili. Guguchia told police her son-in-law had been drinking earlier that night before they started arguing, then she reportedly slapped him in the face and he punched and kicked her, according to the report.

The call was not completed, however, because Kurtsikashvili took the complainant's cellphone as she spoke with police, the report stated.

When police arrived at the residence, they found Guguchia with a swollen eye and Kurtsikashvili with a red mark on his face, police said.

Kurtsikashvili was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and was transported to court July 7.

Guguchia was released on a promise to appear in court July 7.
