How many people do you know that are overweight? Who among your friends and family have high cholesterol? Or diabetes?

For many people, the list is long. More than half of the country is either obese or overweight, 33 percent have elevated blood glucose or diabetes and more than 30 percent of adults have elevated cholesterol.

There is an entire weight loss industry - the Atkins diet, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig - that often does more to confound than to illuminate.

Dr. Joseph Feuerstein will address these issues and more at the meeting of the New Canaan Men’s Club on Friday at 10 a.m. in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Church.

Feuerstein is the Director of Integrative Medicine at Stamford Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia. He’ll discuss the current state America’s health, the limitations of the many diets on the market and go over the “Man Diet,” a plan developed by Feuerstein published in two international nutrition journals and proven to lower LDL cholesterol, drop weight and reduce blood pressure and blood sugar in more than 10,000 patients.
