Letter: Y grateful for Young Women's League's support
Our sincere thanks to the Young Women's League of New Canaan for its very generous grant in support of the New Canaan YMCA's Special Needs Initiative.
Launched in 2009, our Y's Special Needs Initiative serves more than 100 kids, teens and adults in our community through a variety of specialized and inclusive social, recreational and healthy living programs. The New Canaan YMCA is one of just a handful of Ys in the country to have a full-time dedicated director of special needs programming.
The Young Women's League will be sponsoring a summer of special events for participants in our Teen Camp, a unique summer program for teens and young adults with special needs. Camp activities include art, music, group fitness, games, open fun time in the Bouncing Bears gym, and -- thanks to the YWL -- a weekly special event. Planned for this summer are a field trip to the New Canaan Nature Center, a visit from a magician, ice cream truck day, African drumming, and hands-on science experiments.
Through its support of our work, and that of many other fine local nonprofits, the Young Women's League has truly delivered on its charitable giving theme of "helping a child and changing the community." We encourage our fellow community members to support the YWL's fundraising initiatives, which make their good work possible.
Thank you again.
