To the Editor:

The New Canaan High School Concert Choir and Madrigal Ensemble performed selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” as well as other choral and holiday favorites in two concerts as a culmination of their semester-long work.

The NCHS Concert Choir performed with the New Haven Civic Orchestra and St. Luke’s Choral Program on Sunday, Dec. 11 at Woolsey Hall, Yale University. Additionally, the NCHS Concert Choir and Madrigal Ensemble performed on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan. The annual concert featured both choral ensembles, student soloists and a string ensemble performing selections from “Messiah,” by G.F. Handel.

The NCHS Choir is also thrilled to announce the recent success at the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) Western Region Chorus auditions, eleven of the NCHS choir members were chosen to perform with the regional chorus in January, which is the most in over 10 years, and they are each invited to audition for the Connecticut All-State Ensemble.

Three of their 2016 All-State Choir Members have been chosen to perform with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Chorus in Atlantic City, N.J. in April. This choir is comprised of chosen students from 11 states and is a part of only 28 chosen from the state of Connecticut. This is a huge honor and accomplishment for Lauren Carlson (soprano), Tessa Piontkowski (soprano) and Finley Vigliotti (tenor).

Lastly, our choral program is wrapping up the annual grapefruit fundraiser, with 860 boxes delivered and over 60 donated to local food banks! If you would like to place an order, there are a few boxes still available. Call the choir room today!
