Letter: Community Foundation helps keep vans rolling
The Getabout has received a generous grant from the New Canaan Community Foundation that will be used to help off-set costs of operating our five vans. We have been the fortunate recipients of grants from the NCCF and its predecessor agency, the United Way, uninterrupted since our founding in 1981.
The grant enables the Getabout provide safe, up-to-date vehicles and meet the costs involved in serving the transportation needs of our seniors and those with special needs. The grant will provide about 10 percent of our budget requirements for this year.
The Getabout is a unique asset for our town and the envy of many communities. It enables residents who no longer drive to have access to a ride and lead an active life-style without being a burden to friends or family.
More importantly, as our town's residents age, the Getabout is there to provide no-cost rides to medical facilities both locally and adjacent towns.
The New Canaan Community Fund helps make this possible and we're thankful for its support. The Getabout Board encourages our residents to donate to the foundation. Its grants to nonprofits have a huge impact on the quality of life in New Canaan.
