A 54-year-old male from Stamford reported a larceny from his vehicle in the YMCA parking lot May 31 at 11:54 a.m.

The complainant thought he left his car keys in his locker, which was unlocked, but did not find them in there at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thinking he left the keys in his car, he went outside to check and found a stranger rummaging around inside his 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, police said.

Upon talking to the him, the stranger told the complainant that he must have taken the wrong keys because he owns the same vehicle. The two of them then walked inside and after the complainant retrieved his keys the stranger wandered off, police said.

The complainant notified the police and realized $100 was taken from his wallet inside the vehicle. Police described the suspect a 6-foot-2 white male with brown hair in a white T-shirt and blue shorts. The YMCA has surveillance video that police will use to identify the suspect.

The matter is still under investigation.
