Registration is going on now at Lapham Community Center where residents are signing up for nearly 100 fall classes, programs, trips, lectures and other activities.
Lapham Center is open on weekdays in August from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and staff can be reached at 203-594-3620.
The first event of the fall season, the Senior Center Welcome Back lunch at Waveny House, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1. Lunch will be served at noon followed by bingo at 1 p.m. "Those Gals" from the Vine Cottage will be bringing books, flowers, gift cards and other fun prizes.
In the fall, Lapham offers a variety of "beginning" classes as this is the the time when people of all ages think about going "back to school." Richard Olson will teach Bridge for Very Beginners on Thursday mornings starting Sept. 16. Joan Allocca will teach Beginning Maj Jongg on Oct. 6 and George Perkins and Bob Dalury will teach Basics of Poker Oct. 12 and 19.
Fran LaValley will teach Beginning Amrit Yoga on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. starting Sept. 8 and Nancy Strauss will teach Basics of Anusara Yoga at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 7. Beginning Pilates-Based Mat Exercises will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and at 11 a.m. on Thursdays and be taught by Joyce Generoso and Jemetta Hunt.
"Beginning Watercolor" will be taught by Bill Szabo at 10 a.m. on Thursday mornings beginning Sept. 23.
The beginning Spanish class, Spanish for Travelers will be taught by Senor Bob Dalury at 9 a.m. on Mondays beginning Sept. 13. Madame Esther Baldwin will teach French 1 at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays starting Sept. 28 and Signora Lisetta Malagoli will start Beginning Italian at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16.
