Land Trust a step closer to Fowler purchase, vote Wednesday
NEW CANAAN — The New Canaan Land Trust is one step away from receiving necessary town aid to purchase the Fowler Preserve.
In their respective meetings, the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance voted to recommend a special appropriation of $267,000 to the Land Trust, which would give the nonprofit the final push it needs to fit the $1.3 million bill to acquire the 6.3-acre parcel owned by famed zoologist Jim Fowler.
The Town Council have final say on the appropriation, and will vote on the request at their Wednesday, Jan. 18 meeting at Town Hall which begins at 7:30 p.m.
At an informal vote conducted at the last meetuing of the Town Council, Dec. , all but one member of the 12-member board expressed support for the preservation of land and creation of a Land Aquisition Fund, which will be explored further during budget talks.
