The 2012 edition of "Know Your Representatives" will show up soon in the mailboxes of all property owners in New Canaan. Other residents can obtain copies at Town Hall and the library.

This brochure is a directory of contact information for all government representatives at local, state and national levels. Local information includes all elected and appointed officials and administrative staff plus instructions on how to vote in New Canaan. Special additions this year are a call to any interested citizens to contact the selectmen if they would like to volunteer for town boards or commissions and a reminder to voters that the census-based voting redistricting is in effect this year, together with changes for New Canaan.

The document is compiled and partially funded as a public service to New Canaan residents by the League of Women Voters of New Canaan. League member Susan Smith put in an extensive effort in the research, set-up and typing of this detailed reference pamphlet. Many thanks to the town for its help. The Bank of New Canaan, represented by President Heidi DeWyngaert, co-sponsors this publication every year.

The League of Women Voters of New Canaan is a nonpartisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government. Its work extends beyond helping to register and inform voters at election time. The group provides research, education and advocacy programs to increase understanding of public policy issues. Many community projects in New Canaan have been initiated or supported by league efforts. It can be reached at P.O. Box 383, New Canaan.
