NEW CANAAN — The New Canaan community knows they’re always there for them, but they don’t often have a firsthand chance to see them in action.

That’s why Saturday morning members of the New Canaan Fire Department, Emergency Medical Service, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) visited the Pop-Up Park downtown to mingle with the public and give a demonstration on how they extract a victim from a crashed car and get them in an ambulance.

“Recruiting is a big thing for us,” said Assistant Fire Chief Russ Kimes, explaining that part of this is an opportunity to invite people to consider joining up with one of the agencies.

“A lot of people don’t know that the fire department, EMS, and CERT all have volunteers,” he said, calling the demonstration a public engagement opportunity.
