NEW CANAAN — Tapping into one of the favorite traditions of the season, the New Canaan Nature Center kicked off its Adopt-a-Tree program Saturday morning.

For $75, families were able to pick out a sugar maple on the grounds, which staff helped them tap with a drill. Over the next several weeks, they’ll get to share in the sweet bounty that drips from the trees.

Each tree nets anywhere from three to 10 gallons of sap, which boils down into a syrup at a ratio of 40 to one.
