The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce will host the 11th annual Holiday Stroll Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5, on Elm Street with music, Santa Claus, and browsing downtown businesses.

The annual event is considered the kick-off of the holiday season in the downtown business district, with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus lighting trees along Elm Street.

Other activities include the singing of Christmas carols, and musical performances from the Students of the Studio, Performing Arts Conservatory, The New Canaan Dance Academy, and the Magical Music Singers.

Holiday strollers downtown will be entertained by seasonal characters such as Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.

On Saturday, visitors can enjoy photo opportunities with Santa Claus at Houlihan Lawrence, 161 Elm St., a magician doing tricks and the Norwalk Symphony Brass Ensemble bringing live music to the streets. Ice sculptors will ply their trade at three spots downtown, forming characters and objects from blocks of ice.

The event will conclude with the Ginger Bread House Tour sponsored by Halstead Properties.

“You don’t have to be Hansel or Gretel to appreciate the creativity and enthusiasm that our young people exhibit each year when building and decorating their own gingerbread houses,” said Tucker Murphy, executive director of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce.
