State Rep. John Hetherington (R-125), who currently represents the majority of New Canaan and a western sliver of Wilton, was unanimously nominated to run for a fifth term Tuesday night at the Republican convention at town hall.

Hetherington, a New Canaanite who began representing the 125th Assembly District in the house of representatives in 2003, was unopposed at the convention.

"I'm delighted to be in politics this year," he said. "I'm delighted to have the opportunity to go back to Hartford; I've been there eight years and I've tried to keep the promise that I'll listen to you. I'll tell you the truth, even when it's politically inconvenient, and if you have a just grievance with the state, I'll take your side."

He added, "I don't know whether we'll have an opponent or not -- I don't know what the Democrats will do -- but whatever they do, I couldn't have better folks to stand with."
