State Representative John Hetherington (R-New Canaan) has announced his committee assignments for the 2011-13 legislative term.

The New Canaan Representative will serve as Ranking Member (Republican Leader) of the legislature's Judiciary Committee, which deals with all matters relating to courts, judicial procedures, criminal law, the law of business organizations, and numerous other important matters including nominations of Judicial Branch board members and Judges.

Representative Hetherington will also be serving on the Government Administration and Elections Committee, and the Public Health Committee.

"John Hetherington will serve the Judiciary Committee with the thoughtfulness and wisdom that our caucus has come to expect," said Rep. Cafero. "He has an exceptional grasp of the complex issues facing the committee and will bring a steady approach to the legislative committee process."

"It is a pleasure to serve as the Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee. In recent years this committee has been at the forefront of criminal justice reform. I believe this committee will continue to improve upon its work," Rep. Hetherington said.

"I am honored Rep. Cafero has placed his faith in me with this appointment. I look forward to the tremendous challenge ahead. I will keep in mind the Republican principle which asks each one of us, is the legislation good for the citizens of Connecticut?"

Hetherington also noted he was pleased to continue his work on Government Administration and Elections Committee, and the Public Health Committee. "Both committees will have important bills to consider that impact the financial well-being and health of this state. I look forward to working on and improving these bills before they reach the House floor."

Representative Hetherington was re-elected to serve his fifth term representing the 125th District in November of 2010. The new legislative session kicks off on January 5, 2011, and will conclude the following June.
