Infinity Fitness, 70 Pine St., New Canaan, will host its grand opening party on Tuesday, April 16, from 7 to 10 p.m., which is open to the public.

Infinity Fitness Owner David Peterson has been involved in the fitness industry professionally for more than seven years, but health and fitness have been a passion of his for much longer. He has been creating and experimenting with exercise programs since he was in high school, as a captain of the Fairfield High School ice hockey team. After graduating from Boston University, he began his career in the fitness industry but grew frustrated with the limitations of working in a corporate environment.

This led to him creating Infinity Fitness, which had humble beginnings as a single-man operation running out of the trunk of his car.

"I remember lugging equipment to and from parks, beaches and houses. It wasn't fun, but you've got to start somewhere," said Peterson.

He focused on developing his group training program as a way to allow small groups to work together with a personal trainer while harnessing the energy and excitement of being with other like-minded individuals.

He established a set location in Darien in 2011, knowing he wanted to grow his business in New Canaan.

"I would have a lot of people coming down from New Canaan to Infinity Fitness in Darien saying they would love for the business to come into town. It's a unique concept and there isn't anything like it around New Canaan," said Peterson.
