Girls varsity soccer
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Greens Farms Academy girls soccer team faced St. Luke's in the opening round of the NEPSAC tournament.
GFA, ranked No. 6, lost to No. 3-ranked St. Luke's in penalty kicks.
Throughout the first half, the teams remained tied at 0-0. St. Luke's scored first on what seemed to be a miscommunication within GFA's defensive line. Answering was freshman Elyse Kimball (Easton), whose 35-yard kick soared over the goalie's head, bringing the game to 1 all. GFA scored again quickly when senior Clare Mengel (Fairfield) took on the Storm defenders and ripped her shot in to the opposite corner, giving the Dragons the lead.
With just minutes left, however, St. Luke's was able to get one more goal in net, leaving the score tied at 2-2. Neither team was able to score in either overtime period, which sent the match to penalty kicks. St. Luke's found themselves on the winning end of that battle and advancing to the next round.
Boys varsity soccer
The boys soccer team ended their season with a 2-0 loss to The Wheeler School in the opening round of the New England tournament.
GFA, seeded eighth, dominated the first part of the game, but Wheeler got on the board first when the wind helped a long ball dip under the crossbar. While GFA continued to put pressure on the Wheeler defense, a breakaway for Wheeler made it 2-0 at the half for the final score of the game.
