HARTFORD -- The State Bond Commission on Monday approved $14.6 million for road resurfacing, safety improvements and the rehabilitation of bridges along the Merritt Parkway in Stamford and New Canaan.

The work, which will employ more than 200 construction workers, will include $5 million for rebuilding the Metro-North commuter rail bridge over the parkway in New Canaan.

The resurfacing, safety and other bridge improvements are budgeted for $9.6 million. The work is to begin in the spring of 2013.
