NEW CANAAN — Just days after leaving the town’s top elected position, former First Selectman Robert Mallozzi has a new gig.

Mallozzi has been hired as a senior vice president and director of business development at Bankwell. He will be reporting to David Dineen, EVP and head of community banking.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Bankwell team,” said Mallozzi who started work Monday. “They are a caring and responsible organization from top to bottom.”

“I look forward to reaching out to many residents and businesses throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties to get the word out about this community-oriented financial institution,” he added.

Bankwell is a financial institution with a presence throughout Connecticut. Earlier in October, the bank reported record-high quarterly earnings of $4.3 million or $0.55 per share.

“I have known Rob for 25 years, and he personifies community involvement,” said Bankwell CEO Christopher Gruseke in a statement. “Rob’s values and commitment to the community are thoroughly in line with a successful community bank such as Bankwell.”

Mallozzi served three terms in New Canaan’s highest elected office. His attempts at a fourth term were disrupted in July when the Republican caucus chose current first selectman Kevin Moynihan over him by 612 to 602 votes, a tiny difference.

Mallozzi has been a New Canaan resident since 1994. He served on the boards of the New Canaan Library, Waveny Health Network, and Nature Center among others. He has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, for 27 years and has two children. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont.
