New Canaan's Village Critter Outfitter is hosting its third annual Halloween Photo Shoot on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Pets and their owners are invited to visit the store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., dressed in costume, and staff at the store, at 107 Cherry St., will take a free photo. Participants can also select their pet's costume from the store's featured Halloween merchandise. All human family members are also welcome to join the festivities.

The store is also sponsoring a contest to recognize the best photographs. Starting Monday, Oct. 22, the pet photos will be posted on its website, www.villagecritteroutfitter.com, and people can vote for their favorite in three categories: Cutest, Scariest and Best Costume. Online voting will take place throughout the week, and the five photos with the most votes in each category will be displayed at New Canaan's annual Halloween parade. Participants will be able to cast their vote before the start of the parade at the gathering in the Park Street lot from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28. Village Critter Outfitter staff will be there with treats for dogs and voting ballots.

Owner Shirleen Dubuque said, "Halloween is one of our favorite times of the year, and we love to get pets involved. Pets are always welcome in our store and our Halloween Pet Shoot is a really festive day to bring your pets to visit. And it's all for a good cause. As part of the event, we'll raise donations for a local pet shelter and we take some great photos."

Winners of the contest will be announced on Halloween and the owners will receive a $20 coupon to Village Critter Outfitter.
