A Milford man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs last week after a breathalyzer test recorded his blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit, according to police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

Stephen W. Russo, 58, of East Broadway Street, Milford, was charged Jan. 6 when an officer conducting speed checks on Oenoke Ridge Road near Oenoke Lane pulled over Russo's car for traveling above the 25 mile per hour speed limit, according to police.

The officer saw two bottles of Smirnoff vodka inside Russo's car, one of them open and partially consumed, Ogrinc said.

Police transported Russo to Police Department headquarters to be processed, Ogrinc said.

He was released on $250 bond, and is scheduled to appear Jan. 16 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
