Downtown hosts New Canaan Treasures Oct. 15

Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Magazine presents New Canaan Treasures, a custom-designed promotion created to celebrate New Canaan businesses, culminating in a day-long event on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, throughout the downtown streets.
CTC&G Editor-in-Chief D.J. Carey recently visited participating shops, businesses and restaurants and selected her favorite must-have "treasures." Each selection will be tagged in store as a Connecticut Cottages & Gardens "Editor's Treasure" and is featured in a special resource guide in the October issue. Serious shoppers who visit numerous stores and events that day can accumulate gold coins and will be eligible to enter the Treasure Chest contest, featuring high-end lifestyle products and services that are featured in New Canaan.
A portion of the proceeds from this day-long shopping extravaganza will go to The Human Services Council of Fairfield County and the Children's Connection of New Canaan. The HSC will host a special benefit luncheon featuring fall fashions from New Canaan boutiques at The Roger Sherman Inn ($65 per person). The HSC will also offer a discussion for parents, Cyberspace and Beyond: Keeping Your Children Safe, which will be presented by Richard Colangelo,senior assistant state attorney, and Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, of the New Canaan Police Department Youth Division. Topics discussed will include: Consequences of children's actions online, protecting against predators, social networks and networking sites, cyber bullying, revealing too much information and cyber permanence.
