NEW CANAAN — A 36-year-old New Canaan man was charged with drunk driving Monday evening.

Police got a call around 6:15 p.m. about a car that had blocked most of the road as it was backing up and almost hit a fence on Forest Street. When officers arrived, they found the car at Juan Mejia Arias’ address. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath and failed field sobriety tests. Arias was taken into custody and refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.

In addition to driving under the influence, Arias, of Forest Street, was also charged with failure to drive right and driving with a foreign license for more than 30 days. He was released after posting a $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court March 29.
