Pennyweights, 124 Elm St., reported that it received a $20 counterfeit bill Nov. 30, according to New Canaan police.
The bill was found at the end of the day when employees were counting their receipts, police said.
One employee tested the bill with a counterfeit pen after noticing that the color of the lettering on the back "appeared off," police said. The bill tested positive, but Pennyweights also brought it to a bank to check the result. The bank confirmed the bill was counterfeit, police said.
