The Connecticut Association of Realtors presented its 2011 Raymond F. Gates Jr. Memorial Scholarships at its July 19 Board of Directors meeting.

The Raymond F. Gates Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1976 in memory of Raymond F. Gates Jr. following his tragic death in an automobile accident. Gates was the executive vice president of the Connecticut Association of Realtors. Over the past 35 years, children of realtors have been awarded scholarships totaling approximately $675,000.

For the 2011-2012 academic years, the Connecticut Association of Realtors received more than 150 applications. This year, 44 outstanding children of Connecticut Realtors were selected to receive a total of $44,000 in scholarships.

The New Canaan Board of Realtors is proud to announce that Jake Hennessy, son of realtor Janis Hennessy, was among the 44 selected.

Hennessy graduated from New Canaan High School in 2011. He will attend the University of Miami, where he plans to double major in mathematics and secondary education. He took predominately honors and AP classes at NCHS. He is the son of James and Janis Hennessy. Janis Hennessy is a realtor at Brotherhood & Higley and a member of the New Canaan Board.
