The Civil War will be discussed when Professor Steve Berizzi addresses the Senior Men's Club of New Canaan Friday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. in Morrill Hall at St. Mark's Church.

Berizzi will tell the Senior Men about "Sept. 9, 1861: A Day in the First Year of the Civil War." This will be a specialized presentation about events taking place 150 years ago, with some discussion, like the state of the union after Lincoln's election leading up to the first major battle of the Civil War at Bull Run near Manassas, Va., in July 1861 and then to Sept. 9 and beyond.

David Koch, assistant professor of history at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, and a Civil War specialist, will join Professor Berizzi for a dialogue, which should be very interesting to the members. Berizzi retired from the practice of law in 2001 and has since taught history and political science at Norwalk Community College. He is noted for his perspective on our Civil War and our presidents and has presented at the New Canaan Historical Society and the New Canaan Library, as well as the Senior Men's Club.

The Senior Men's Club of New Canaan is open for membership applications. Applicants are especially welcome to attend this meeting.
