NEW CANAAN — Those disappointed to see Thali close in November can now try chef Prasad Chirnomula’s latest dishes across Main Street at his newest eatery, India.

Chirnomula ran Thali for 14 years, and has other restaurants with that name and others in the region. But his new restaurant here is smaller, more intimate, and the bar is British.

“I like the space; I call it sexy,” he said Sunday as he hosted a preview at the restaurant, which opened to the public the next day.

The menu has some surprises.

“I’m keeping the classics as classics. The newest thing is farm-to-table,” he said, promising dishes will be prepared from scratch, with no artificial colorings or preservatives.

“And I’ve got a lot of high-quality small plates,” he said.

The menu has 25 of them.

“They give me as a chef a chance to showcase my talents, my food,” he said.

India, 62 Main St., is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Sunday has “brunch with a British twist,” 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 203-972-8332.
