CERT Disaster Preparedness Training begins Oct. 20
The New Canaan chapter of CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team, will offer a six-session course in Disaster Preparedness beginning Oct. 20.
The six sessions will cover: Introduction to Disaster Preparedness; Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Emergency Medical Operations; Incident Command and Team Organization; Disaster Psychology, Terrorism and Sheltering in Place; and Fire Safety and Light Search and Rescue. The schedule is Oct. 20, 23 and 27, and Nov. 3, 6 and 13. The sessions are hands-on.
This is the thirteenth CERT training since 2003. More than 200 residents have been trained.
Participants who successfully complete the full curriculum can volunteer as members of New Canaan CERT and become Red Cross volunteers. Members of New Canaan CERT are provided with a Red Cross backpack, basic disaster gear, a town identification card and can participate in additional training sessions.
Participants must register with the CT Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross in New Canaan.
