An 86-year-old New Canaan Inn resident reported a larceny Aug. 20 at 10:45 a.m.
Police said the woman reported her missing billfold after she received a call from the bank about someone using her debit card for $293 at a grocery store. There was also a report of the card being used at a gas station in Bridgeport. Her son, who stayed at the apartment with her that evening, said he believes someone had entered the apartment between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. Police said the son assumed it was a nurse checking on his mother. The billfold contained $60 in cash, miscellaneous credit cards and a social security card.
