Family Fourth of July Celebration

The 36th annual Family Fourth of July Celebration will be held Monday at Waveny Park. The late-day activities include family picnicking, live music, children's games, food court and a fireworks display.

Film screening

The award-winning feature film, “No Letting Go,” will be shown free on July 12 at 6:15 p.m. at the New Canaan Library’s Adrian Lamb Room.

The poignant film depicts the impact of mental health disorders, which affect 1-in-5 children in the United States every year.

Randi Silverman, the film’s writer and producer, will lead a question-and-answer session after the screening.

Marinelli, Gilmore selected to hall of fame

Lou Marinelli, coach of the 11-time state champion New Canaan High School football program, and Maurice “Wilky” Gilmore, a basketball star for the Rams and the University of Colorado, were inducted into the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Marinelli’s record at New Canaan is 300-92-6. He ranks first in wins among active coaches in Connecticut and third all-time in the state.

Gilmore was a four-sport letterman at New Canaan High. He led the Rams to three consecutive state titles in the 1950s and set a school record with 697 points as a senior.
