One of New Canaan's most popular events -- the annual Halloween Parade -- takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

Leading the parade will be the Old Faithful Antique Fire Truck and the cast of New Canaan High School's production of "Tom Sawyer," which opens Friday, Oct. 25.

The event is sponsored by the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce.

Ghosts, goblins, fairy princesses, superheroes, children of all ages and their dogs are invited to participate.

Grandparents and residents are invited to cheer on the marchers and take lots of pictures of the various, sometimes wholly original, characters.

Goodie bags will be given out to marchers.

All marchers are asked to gather in the Park Street parking lot at noon to prepare.

The parade leaves from the parking lot, proceeds to the corner of Park and Elm, then travels down Elm Street to Main Street, and loops back up Elm Street, which will be closed to vehicular traffic.

At noon, activity booths will be open and the staffs of many stores will be handing out treats. Venture Photography is sponsoring the "Best Dressed Family Contest." At Ralph Lauren's Children's Store, 115 Elm St., a full Halloween party will be taking place.

Among the other activities are face painting and a glitter tattoo artist, photo booth, costume contest with gift basket prize and a raffle for a $500 shopping spree. Also, cupcakes, brownie pops, caramel apples, apple cider and more will be available.
