Upwards of $3,000 in jewelry was stolen from a New Canaan resident when a burglar entered her house July 31, according to police.

The 45-year-old victim said she left her Old Norwalk Road residence at 8:45 a.m. and returned at 1 p.m., when she then noticed someone had been in her house, police said. The woman reported her bedroom's closet was open and jewelry boxes and numerous jewelry items, including rings and necklaces, were missing, according to the report.

Police said the resident had left her front door unlocked that morning.

The case is under investigation.
