A jumper cable valued at $400 was stolen from the Gulf gas station, 36 South Ave., New Canaan, Feb. 1.

A 30-year-old Gulf employee called New Canaan police at 7:09 p.m. saying a man had come to the station at about 5:30 p.m. asking to buy a jumper cable, police said. Since Gulf doesn't sell jumper cables, the employee offered to lend one to the man, according to the report. The suspect took the cable to a white Nissan Maxima that was parked near the gas station, but he never came back to return the tool, police said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with black hair, police said.
