A $40,000 diamond was reported stolen from a Weed Street resident's ring, according to police.

The 40-year-old New Canaan resident called police May 5 to report that the approximately 2-carat diamond had gone missing sometime in the morning of May 4, police said.

The woman said she removes the ring every night and places it in the bathroom, which she did the night of May 3, according to the report. When she went to the bathroom at about 9 a.m. the next day, she only found the ring, without the diamond, police said.

The complainant had a worker in the house the morning the diamond went missing, but the investigation is ongoing, according to police.
