A New Canaan favorite is ready to go for the 32nd year in a row. The town will host the Family Fourth fireworks celebration Wednesday, July 4. The rain date is July 5.

Town Administrator Tom Stadler, the new chairman of the Family Fourth committee, said he wanted to hold the event on July 4, even though it falls on a Wednesday.

"It is on the Fourth, which I think is very important. The tradition here is to always have it on the Fourth," Stadler said.

Waveny Park will open around 5 p.m. and fireworks are scheduled to go off sometime around 9:15 p.m. Stadler said.

Passes are on sale at www.newcanaan.info for $30.

They can also be purchased through mail or in person at the Recreation Department office in Waveny House until July 3 and on the steps of Town Hall June 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stadler said the event is self contained and paid for mostly from the passes.

"Everything is paid for by these entrance passes," Stadler said. "Out of our whole budget of $50,000 or $60,000, it comes from selling these passes."

Stadler is also aware the tickets are almost a form of the honor system.

"We know that if you live within walking distance, you can just walk down through the high school parking lot and walk in," Stadler said. "But it's kind of like everyone shells out $30 and we have a nice show."

Also for the first time in 30 years, food will be provided. Garelick & Herbs will bring in hot dogs, burgers, wraps, popcorn, cotton candy and much more.
