19-year-old faces marijuana charge

Matthew Edwards, 19, of Norwalk was charged with illegal sale of marijuana April 17 at 4:01 p.m.
Police stopped Edwards after he was seen heading north on New Norwalk Road with a defective brake light. He was stopped on Smith Ridge Road near Twin Pond Lane. The officer had police dog Zira on hand. Zira indicated an odor of drugs coming out of the driver's door. Police found a glass jar under the driver's seat with plastic bags of marijuana. There were four small plastic bags with marijuana and an additional package of even smaller bags with marijuana. Additionally, police found another seven small bags of marijuana in a bag of potato chips. There was an 18-year-old male passenger from New Canaan as well who was not charged.

Police charged Edwards with possession of marijuana and illegal sale of marijuana. He posted a $500 bond and will appear in court April 27.
