116 butterflies to take flight
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, 116 butterflies will be released to freedom at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Darien Nature Center.
The event is sponsored by the Darien Domestic Abuse Partnership.
Each butterfly represents a domestic violence call received by the Darien Police Department over the past year.
The Darien Domestic Abuse Partnership works in conjunction with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center to protect and promote the rights of all individuals to be safe in their personal relationships. The Domestic Violence Crisis Center has a professional staff and offers confidential services at no charge. Services include court and legal services, counseling and safe houses. The DVCC is on call 24 hours a day through its hotline 888-774-2900.
Members of the community may contribute $20 to the purchase of one butterfly. Tickets will be on sale at area grocery stores, Darien-Norwalk YWCA and Room 109 at the Darien Town Hall.
