Rain, accidents slowing the AM commute
Heavy traffic and rain is slowing the morning commute across southwest Connecticut.
Earlier Monday morning, a multi-vehicle accident in Stratford closed the left and center southbound lanes Monday morning.
The accident, reported at 5:48 a.m., has closed the lanes closed between Exits 34 and 32. About 90 minutes later all lanes reopened.
Traffic was backed up more than two miles because of the Stratford crash.
Just before 8 a.m., the average southbound speed on I095 between Bridgeport and Norwalk was 19 mph.
Southbound speeds on the Merritt Parkway were at 23 mph, according to the state Department of Transportation.
There are bigger traffic problems on I-91 in Windsor with a jackknifed tractor-trailer accident that’s blocking lanes in both directions between Exits 38 and 40.
State Police tweeted a photo of the crash Monday morning.
“Use caution & reduce speed as you head out this morning, some highways & roadways may be slick. This no injury crash was earlier this morning on I91 nb x38 Windsor, however there still may be delays/lane closures as crews work to remove the TT.”
