Local florist completes professional design class on principles and elements of design
Carrie Wilcox of Bon Fleur in New Canaan recently completed the class TESTING, Testing ... 1.2.3: A Primer on Using the Principles and Elements of Design hosted by Teleflora at its state of the art Education Center in Oklahoma City.
Floral designers from all over North America attended the seminar to sharpen their skills and grow their design abilities.
Wilcox participated in four days of intensive hands-on design sessions, mastering the latest in creating designs with fresh flowers and foliages.
Taught by a widely recognized floral artist and instructor, Kevin Ylvisaker AIFD PFCI, of Milwaukee, Wisc., the students focused on creating fresh floral designs using the principles and elements of design.
The students also completed a series of floral assignments designed to give them insights into how to improve and grow their personal design styles. Exercises in color, line studies and creating focal areas were also included.
"Many designers create intuitively," Marie Ackerman, vice president of education for Teleflora, said. "It's exciting to see them discover the reasons and theories behind why a floral composition looks good and then discover how to apply these concepts to their daily designs."
Wilcox received a certificate of completion from the Teleflora Education Center, now in its 27th year of providing advanced floral education, in recognition of the advancements made during this intense hands-on design class.
She is currently a candidate for the prestigious American Institute of Floral Designers designation and a floral designer at Bon Fleur Florist at 149 Cherry St. in New Canaan.
