STORY LINES

PARTY WITH SPARTY: UConn is 3-2 all-time against the Spartans, with coach Kevin Ollie picking up his first career win in his debut at last year's Armed Forces Classic 66-62 at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The Huskies have won two straight in the series, but MSU prevailed in the last NCAA tournament meeting, topping UConn 82-73 in the 2009 Final Four. UConn is making its 11th appearance in the Elite Eight and fourth in the last nine years. MSU is making its eighth trip to the Elite Eight and is 6-1 there under Tom Izzo.

MOVING UP: Shabazz Napier has scored 1,900 points, which is 22 points shy of Ray Allen for fourth place on UConn's all-time list. Napier (494) needs eight made free throws to take the career lead from Kemba Walker (501). Corny Thompson is second (496). With Sunday's game, Napier will become the career leader in games played for the Huskies. He came in tied with Kevin Freeman at 140.

TOURNEY NUMBERS: Napier is averaging 22.7 points and DeAndre Daniels 18.7 ppg for the Huskies, who are averaging 82.3 points. MSU comes in averaging 78 ppg and is led by Adreian Payne (23 ppg) and Branden Dawson (20 ppg). Both teams have been excellent at the foul line, with UConn hitting 85.7 percent (60-for-70) and MSU 83.1 percent (54-for-65). The Spartans have a slight rebounding edge, averaging 36 per game while UConn is at 33.7.
