In a rematch of last year's Class L girls tennis final, Fairfield Ludlowe swept New Canaan 7-0 to open the 2014 spring season on Wednesday at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Cami Adajian topped Caroline Gordon 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match, as Rams freshmen Camryn Schlim, Abby Crowley and Charlotte Craig all fell in the their respective singles matches. The newcomers combined for just four games won in their first high school action.

"If they can come off and say they didn't leave anything on the court, that's the most important thing," New Canaan coach Eric Fey said. "It's only the first match of the season. All that matters is the last match of the season, and if we don't lose that, it means we've had a good run."

Unlike a year ago, the Falcons dominated all doubles matches. The Rams' best doubles pairing, Sarah Lovejoy and Schuyler O'Mahoney, was shut out in the opening set, before falling 6-4 in their final one of the day. Caroline Pratt and Tyler Kendall lost 6-1, 6-2, as New Canaan's No. 3 doubles partners, Katie Means and Kelsey Rowley, were defeated 6-2, 6-2.

"We wanted to make a statement today, and I think we did that," Fairfield Ludlowe coach John Reisert said. "Couldn't ask for a better first day."

After Thursday's home match against Stamford, the Rams will return to the hardcourt to take on St. Joseph at 4 p.m.
