There's a pleasant surprise to be found down the long driveway of 60 Hoyt St. in New Canaan -- a large house with a range of features. It's a short walk into the center of town, but situated on a desirable, quiet street.

The entryway, two stories with a chandelier and dark oak wood floors, is spacious and feels brand new.

The main staircase rises up on the left and then bridges over the back of the entranceway, which offers a two-story view out the back, with windows situated both above and below the line of the bridge.

To the right is a wide-open archway into a big living room with a wood and marble mantel fireplace and a high ceiling. In fact, most of the ceilings throughout are very high.

Close by on the right is a kind of hallway area with a half bath that leads into a library, with a ceiling that reaches up two stories.

It features a fireplace, wood floors and more oak built-in cabinets and bookshelves that are eight feet high on two walls.

Left of the entry is a dining room with a roomy feeling, which is aided by the front section having been constructed to add four extra feet of space. From here is a wide-open kitchen that is full of amenities. Two small half-moon-shaped glass globes hang over a granite-top island that is split into two different levels.

The cabinetry has a classic antiquated country look due to its subtle trim, blending with the granite counter tops, and, again, all under a high ceiling.

Off the kitchen, French doors lead out onto a slate patio and backyard. There's an adjacent mudroom as well, which is packed with cabinets, and also attaches to a large pantry.

The back stairs lead up to a wide hall.

To the left, double doors lead to the master bedroom, which has two walk-in closets. There's also a tiled bathroom with a high ceiling and generous light from a porthole-shaped window at 10 feet.

Across the way is an enormous playroom, three other bedrooms with two bathrooms between them.

There's also a third-floor bonus room featuring a 34-by-16-square foot space.

The basement is in progress, but shows promise with ample space; several sections of rooms already framed off.
