On the market: Complete with bowling alley
Updated 3:35 pm, Wednesday, August 14, 2013
The luxurious house at 10 Heather Drive in New Canaan has more than 15,000 square feet -- it's unlikely that even the Brady Bunch would need or want a more spacious palace.
And what a place for kids. Before seeing anything, it's worth the jaunt downstairs into the enormous finished basement to see the professional-size, two-lane bowling alley, complete with video scoring and all the automatics you'd expect to find at the local lanes.
Not far away from the bowling alley is the theater. Flavored with the scent of popcorn, this authentic screening space contains eight chairs and the decorative accoutrements to make any movie-goer thrilled for the access.
Along with a full bath, this so-called basement also has its own rubber-floored exercise room with a separate exit. There is a large entertainment area with its own full bar and dishwasher.
This 22-room house, built on three floors above the basement, is centered on almost 2.5 acres of flat, open property.

Starting at the top, the amount of storage is baffling. There is also one of the five en suite bedrooms, which is perfect for guests or, judging on its enormity, perhaps a jai-alai court.
Each bedroom is lovely enough, but the accompanying bathrooms are stylish and unique.
The second floor has the other four bedrooms, and the master tops them all. There's a gas fireplace and an adjacent sitting area with two-story-high windows and a balcony that overlooks the classic library down on the first floor.
A set of double doors open into the plush master bathroom, which features a cathedral ceiling and a granite-tiled spa tub at the center, situated below a bow window.
Back at ground level, it's worth mentioning the enormity of the house from its exteriors is broken by the architecture of the attached four-car garage, which is split by a porte-cochere that allows separate entrance up to the guest bedroom. The garage bays offer the look of four faux wood stable doors.
There are also two driveways -- one of which circles the front, with convenient access to the office and mini-reception-type room at the south side of the building. An informal rear entrance, off the back driveway, leads down a heated mudroom hall and the kitchen.

The kitchen repeats the marbleized granite for its counters and twin islands, one of which has a sink. The ceiling in this room soars, and clever lighting hidden inside high glass-door cabinets make this feel more like a magazine showcase than any ordinary kitchen.
There's a large built-in work station by the kitchen, which opens into a dining area with French doors leading out to the slate-floor patio.
There, you get a picture of where the pool needs to go, adjacent to a shed. (It's an interesting afterthought that there was never a pool built, but the sellers are providing the professional plans for completion of the project.)
The living area attached to the kitchen is centered around a stone fireplace. The ceiling is molded with built-in bookcases adding style and convenience.
A formal living room attached this room has a Victorian feel, owing to the high molding and half-octagonal shape of the southern part of the space. There is also another fireplace and pocket doors.
The dining room has an attached temperature-controlled wine storage closet with a glass door. A highlight of the library is the fine oak used in its construction and finish.
There is an elevator, as well as security, central vacuum, and a sound system throughout the house for entertaining -- as if guests would not already be blown away by this grand, fully-equipped home.
