Elizabeth McMahon, 53, of 1111 Avalon Drive West, New Canaan, was arrested Jan. 2 on charges of third-degree burglary and second-degree larceny of a motor vehicle.

The silver 2010 Nissan Rogue was reported stolen from a Millport Avenue home Thanksgiving week. On Dec. 2, McMahon's mother called police in Pelham, N.Y., saying her daughter was "in need of care and was driving that vehicle" from Pelham back to New Canaan, according to the report.

The vehicle was found at McMahon's home the same day, police said. McMahon, who police said was too "distressed" to be arrested, was taken to the hospital. However, charges were made so her treatment can be monitored, according to police.

She was released on a promise to appear in court Jan. 14.
