If the New Canaan boys lacrosse team is to successfully defend its hard-earned FCAIC crown in the spring, the Rams will have to do so without the same man who guided them to that title.
After five years at the helm of New Canaan's lacrosse program, Alex Whitten announced his decision to step down on Wednesday afternoon at New Canaan High School. Whitten is moving to Charlottesville, VA to coach lacrosse at Western Albemarle High School.
"My wife and I didn't come to this decision lightly. I had the opportunity to interview for a program down outside of Charlottesville, a program called Western Albemarle High School. This is a challenge for me, personally and professionally, to take a different step," Whitten said. "New Canaan has been a phenomenal program long before I got here, and it'll be a phenomenal program long after I'm gone. There's a tradition of excellence within this program that's deeply rooted here in the community."
