A 69-year-old New Canaan woman reported two recent fraud attempts to police July 18.
The Canoe Hill Road resident, who said she's a been a victim of fraud before, told police she recently received a phone call from a man claiming to be from Clear Creek tax firm, according to the report. The man said he was handling a federal overtax payment issue for a landscaping company and that her name and contact information were on the list, police said.
The woman, however, had no connection to the company so she asked for her name to be removed from the list, according to police.
The resident also reported receiving a fax from a person claiming to be from a bank in Barcelona, Spain, asking her to provide her name, phone number and email address so she could receive money from a deceased client. She did not disclose any information, police said.
Police said they looked into both cases and were able to confirm the landscaping company and the Barcelona bank were not legitimate.
