Two New Canaan students awarded scholarships

Two New Canaan students were selected from more than 150 applicants to receive Raymond F. Gates Jr. Memorial Scholarships.

Meaghan Walsh recently graduated from New Canaan High School and attends Santa Clara University, pursuing a degree in communications. She is the daughter of John and Becky Walsh.

Becky Walsh is a Realtor with William Pitt Sotheby's International Realty.

Maggie O'Rourke recently graduated from New Canaan High School and attends Princeton University, majoring in molecular biology.

She is the daughter of John and Lisa O'Rourke. Lisa O'Rourke also is a Realtor with William Pitt Sotheby's International Realty and a member of the New Canaan board.

The scholarship fund was established in 1976 in memory of Raymond F. Gates, Jr., executive vice president of the Connecticut Association of Realtors, following his death in an automobile accident. Originally intended to assist Gates' children, the fund was expanded to benefit the children of Connecticut Realtors, and state and local association staff.

Over the past 36 years, children of Realtors have been awarded more than $707,000 in scholarships.
