The "comedy slot" in The Town Players of New Canaan's current season features "Dearly Departed." The David Bottrell and Jessie Jones comedy opens at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at the Powerhouse Theatre in Waveny Park and will run for three weekends.

"Most of us have relatives who are invited to family events but we hope don't come. In `Dearly Departed,' they all show up," producer Katey Henninger said. "The family patriarch dies, but there's not much sincere mourning. With these oddball characters, not much would change if the event had been a wedding."

The cast includes Deborah Burke, Roger Dykeman, Marc Hartog, David L. Jackins, Daniel Mann, Jeff Rossman, Rita Schaffer, Nancy Sinacori and Marcia Vinci. New to the Powerhouse are actresses Anya Caravella, Amber Mason and Stephanie Woerdeman.

Other offstage contributors include Janet Adams, Gary Battaglia, Tom Butterworth, Kathleen Davidson, Sheri Dean, Ed Donahue, Bob Doran, Elaine Giggi, Andee and Steve Gravereaux, Dave Hunt, Yohan Jeffries, Cheryl Petrone, Deborah Runestad, Zuhair Suidan and Carrie Van Atten.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Feb. 20 through March 7, and 2:30 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 21 and 28. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and students.
