The New Canaan YMCA kicked off its new community service program, Togetherhood, on July 16.
Togetherhood, the Y's national program for social responsibility, invites Y members to participate in volunteer service projects that benefit the community.
The New Canaan YMCA Togetherhood committee will host
service projects throughout the year each focusing on a different need.
"Being on the Togetherhood committee is giving me endless opportunities to help others with the support of other committee members," Julie Levitt, committee volunteer, said in a release. "I am very excited to engage the entire Y community in our volunteer efforts."
The committee will host a "summer fun donation" project. The committee is collecting new or gently used bathing suits, towels, goggles, shampoo and conditioner. Levitt, the leader of the first project, said, "Can you imagine being a kid and not having a swimsuit to swim in when all the other kids have one? Or a towel to dry off with? It breaks your heart, and we can help."
Donation boxes can be found through Aug. 11 at the New Canaan YMCA, the New Canaan Field Club and at Kiwanis Park in front of the Camp Y-ki office.
